Project Description:

In October 2013, the NSW Government awarded a $9 million grant to Singleton Council for the revitalisation of the Singleton Town Centre under the Resources for Regions program. Council had already committed $2 million to the project to commence planning and design.

Stage one of the project extends down John St from Hunter St to Gowrie St and combines civil, electrical, architectural, landscaping and mechanical elements.

Products Supplied:

Work includes:

  • Extending footpath areas and introducing new pavement and the introduction of raised pedestrian crossings.
  • New garden beds and rain gardens will be established with more than 70 new trees and 2000 plants, using state of the art watering systems that use stormwater.
  • Modern street furniture, including more than 60 new benches, drinking fountains, and bike racks will also be installed.
  • The street lights will be upgraded by removing the existing street lights and replacing them with modern LED type lights as well as adding dedicated lighting to the footpaths in awning areas.
  • The speed limit for a section of John St will be reduced to 40km/h and dedicated parking including spaces for people with disabilities will be provided.
  • Selected sections of the John St road pavement will be improved following detailed geotechnical investigations undertaken earlier this year.
  • Wayfinding signage, including maps of the town centre, will be introduced to assist motorists and pedestrians with getting to their desired location.

M1 Motorway Upgrade

Location: Beresfield, NSW

M1 Motorway Upgrade (Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive Intersection)

Project Description: The upgrade involved the replacement of the existing roundabout intersection with traffic lights to improve traffic flow, travel times and motorist safety.

Full scope of works for the project includes:

  • the replacement of the roundabout with traffic lights;
  • construction of two through lanes on all approaches;
  • construction of additional turning lanes on all approaches, including two right turn lanes from the motorway to John Renshaw Drive;
  • the extension of the two northbound lanes on Weakleys Drive from the traffic lights to Enterprise Drive;
  • the upgrade of the existing left-turn slip lane from John Renshaw Drive to the motorway;
  • the addition of a new left-turn lane from John Renshaw Drive to the motorway; and
  • additional on-road provisions for cyclists.

The project is a part of RMS’ M1 Productivity Package ($391.6 million) funded by the Federal and NSW State governments to improve overall traffic flow and safety on the M1.
